Mr. Almahendra and Luxembourgian

It was the first week for this semester and I already got something from a new lecturer> His name (he is a man –of course, why do I need to tell you this?-) is Rangga Almahendra. He graduated for bachelor in egineering from ITB, finished his master in MM UGM, and finished his doctoral program in Vienna, Austria. He is really young and energetic. I could see from the clothes he wore last week which is uncomparable to the other lecturer.

When he was talking about his experiences while studying in Europe, there’s only one name I remember from the discussion. It is Purwadi Santoso. He is the head of Sugar Group Schools. Mr. Rangga Almahendra was talking about going foreign. Working as an expatriate and come back to Indonesia as a millionaire. The same way Mr. Purwadi Santoso always telling us (the student of Sugar Group Schools) while we were still in the senior-high.

Luxembourg. Mr. Rangga Almahendra used this country as an example of why people in the foreign have a great wealth. Luxembourg has the highest level of per capita income in the world. Not mentioning the meaning of “LUX” in the word of Luxembourg, but it is in the connection of US$ 84,000 a year of per capita income. Ever think about how much is that for us in Indonesian Rupiah? Suppose US$ 1 is Rp 8.800, It is around Rp 739.200.000,-. Well one year of salary there will be more than enough to payback my scholarship. Hahaha..

But why Luxembourg has a very high per capita income?

(Remember that per capita income, comes from total number of GDP divided by the total number of the country’s population, means that there are some possibility, people with income far more than US$ 84,000)

Simply, Mr. Almahendra said, it is because some “very-big” company put their branch for great scale of regional there. Let say for Europe regional, or Central Europe, or else I can’t tell you exactly.

Then, why they build their branch office there? Why not in Indonesia?

Simply, again, so simply. It is about the quality of the human resource. For instant, say that for every Indonesian (normal) people, Luxembourgian (hahaha) can do it for 40 times ahead of us. Example, I (I’m an Indonesian, say that I am a normal ones, haha) finish checking a financial report every 1 week, compare to Luxembourgian who could finish forty financial reports a week. (Damn, it is too much and weird!)

Well, it is my plan to go aboard. Feel the foreign air and water. But let us focus for what happen now. We plan, God decide! See you!

Special thanks to Mr. Purwadi Santoso and Mr. Rangga Almahendra.
